My story
I arrived in the United States at the end of January of 2024. Before migrating and discovering the doula path, I was a professor in Cali, Colombia, my hometown. I'm an anthropologist who loved learning and teaching and decided to do a master’s degree in education. I spent more than ten years teaching, researching and designing learning tools for different communities.
My path to becoming a doula was inspired by a profound sense of purpose. This transition happened at the same time that my best friend Maria Isabel (Marucha) was diagnosed with cancer. Before passing away she said she had a feeling that I should be a doula. I had the privilege to take care of her until I had to travel. She was a visionary and her words were full of beauty and wisdom. After her death, I deeply felt I needed a non-intellectual job. I just wanted to be an embodied presence and offer my warmth. I found a job opportunity in Doulas By the Bay, where I worked for over a year with many families. This experience, full of vulnerability, empathy, shared space, has everything to do with what’s important to me. I discovered that being a doula shares many of the things I love about teaching, such as deep listening, sharing, inviting myself and others to appear as we are, and witnessing how you discover your potentiality and creation.
I deeply believe that my friend sent me this new path as a gift, and that this is my true soul calling. These experiences have shown me the power of compassionate presence during life’s biggest transitions. I am here to be the great companion you need, helping you feel confident in your new role.
